개별꽃[석죽과 개별꽃속]

꽃잎이 5장이고, 도란형이며, 끝이 오목하게 파이거나 밋밋하다.

줄기에는 흰털이 2줄로 나며, 잎은 마주나지만 끝부분의 잎은 4장이 돌려나는 것처럼 보인다

뿌리는 방추형의 덩이뿌리이며, 폐쇄화는 뿌리와 가까운 줄기 부분이나 뿌리에 달린다

덩이뿌리를 태사삼(太子蔘)이라 하며 강장제로 사용한다
