복자기 [단풍나무과 단풍나무속]

우리나라에 자생하는 단풍나무 종류의 잎은 대부분 홑잎이지만 

복자기와 복장나무만 삼출엽의 겹잎이다.

두 나무의 이름은 모두 점치는 일과 관련이 있다고 본다.

'복자기'는 점쟁이를 뜻하는 복자(卜者), 복장나무는 길흉을 점쳐서 정한다는 뜻의 복정(卜定)과

관련이 있다고 추정한다.

10m 정도로 자라는 중간키 나무로 나무 껍질은 회백색이고 껍질이 벗겨진 자리는 붉은색을 띤다.

잎은 3출겹잎으로 2~3개의 큰톱니가 있다(복장나무는 작은 톱니가 규칙적으로 있다)

꽃은 3~4월에 잎과 같이 피는데 가지 끝에서 3개씩 달리고 꽃자루에 갈색털이 있다.
