콩배나무[장미과 배나무속]

콩알은 매우 작은 물건을 비유적으로 이르는 말이다.

'콩배'는 콩알처럼 작은 배란 뜻이다.

실제로 콩알보다 조금 굵은 콩배나무의 열매는 배의 축소판으로 열매 표면에

하얀 점이 점점이 찍혀 있는 것까지 닮았다.

3~8m 정도 자라는 작은 키 나무로 꽃은 4~5월에 가지 끝에 5~9개가 모여 달리며

흰색 또는 연한 홍색이고 꽃밥은 자줏빛이 도는 붉은색이다

열매는 지름 1.0 ~1.5cm 정도로 작으며 표면에 흰 반점이 있다

비슷한 크기의 열매를 맺는 아그배는 열매에 반점이 없고 붉게 익는다
