털진달래[진달래과 진달래속]

어린 가지와 잎에 털이 많은 진달래라서 털진달래라는 이름을 얻었다.

설악산 서북능선 바위 너덜지대에 털진달래 군락지가 있는데 꽃이 필 때는 온통 붉은 진달래로 장관을 이루는데

올 해는 시기가 늦어서 늦둥이 몇 개체만 꽃을 달고 있다.

높은 산의 바위지대에 자라는 작은 키 나무로 가지가 많고, 어린 줄기와 잎에 털이 많다.

꽃은 진달래보다 늦은 시기인 5~6월에 피는데 꽃의 크기가 진달래의 1/3 정도로 작다
