철쭉[진달래과 진달래속]

암만 생각해 봐도 철쭉과 산철쭉은 이름이 바뀐 것 같은 생각이 든다

우리가 흔히 정원이나 공원등에서 보는 산철쭉은 산자락이나 계곡의 물가에서 자라고

철쭉은 높은 산의 능선부에서 자라기 때문이다.

키가 2~5m 정도로 자라는 중간키 나무이며 4~6월에 연한 자주색 꽃이 핀다.

제주를 제외한 전국에 자라며 독성이 있어 먹을 수 없다 하여 개꽃이라고도 부른다
