흰참꽃[진달래과 진달래속]

(흰참꽃 : 잎지는 넓은 잎 작은키 나무)

 

지리산, 덕유산, 가야산 등 높은 산 바위틈에서 드물게 자라는 낙엽 지는 작은 키 넓은 잎 나무이다.

키는 50~100cm 정도로 자라고 가지가 많이 갈라지고, 어긋나는 잎은 가지 끝에 모여 달린다. 

꽃은 5~6월에 붉은색이 도는 흰색으로 피는데 지름이 1cm 정도로 작으며 5개의 꽃술이 꽃잎보다 길게 나온다.
