여뀌[마디풀과 여뀌속]

매운맛이 아주 강해서 혀에 닿으면 얼얼 해지는데 비슷하게 생긴 바보여뀌는 매운맛이 없다고 바보여뀌라고

불린다. 여뀌의 잎과 뿌리를 잦이겨서 물레 풀면 물고기가 기절해서 뜨기 때문에 어릴 때 물고기를 잡는데

사용했으며 삶은 물로 진디기 같은 해충 박멸용으로 사용한다.

꽃은 7~10월에 이삭꽃차례에 달리며 흰색으로 피고 밑으로 처진다
