남개연[수련과]

    남개연은 꽃이 핀 후에 꽃이 물에 잠기는데 그 이유가 무었일까?

    사진쟁이들이 반영을 멋지게 담을 수 있도록 배려하는 것일까

    남개연은 충매(蟲媒) 즉 곤충에 의해 수정하는 꽃이 아니고 물에 꽃가루를 흘려서

     다른 꽃과 수정하기 때문에 꽃대를 밑으로 당겨서 꽃이 물에 잠기도록 하는 것이다.

    이런 방법으로 수정하는 수생식물이 몇종류 있는데 대표적인 식물이 나사말이다.

    여름에 나사말이 있는 냇가에 가보면 나사말의 꽃가루가 하얗게 물에 떠있는 것을 볼 수 있다.

    각설하고 남개연은 우리가 흔히 꽃이라고 생각하는 노란꽃잎같이 생긴 것은 꽃받침이고 암술을

    감싸고 있는 실타래 같은 것이 꽃잎이며 잎은 물에 뜨는 영양잎과 물에 잠기는 수중엽이 있고

    열매는 장과로 물속에서 익는다
