지치[지치과 지치속]

산과 들의 풀밭이나 숲 속, 특히 석회암 지대에 많이 자라는 여러해살이풀이다.

전체에 흰털이 많고 높이 30~70cm이며 뿌리는 땅속 갚아 들어가며 굵고 마르면 자주색이 된다.

곧추서는 가지는 위쪽에서 가지가 갈라지고 잎에는 가로의 줄이 있다

꽃은 5~6월에 흰색으로 핀다. 뿌리를 약용하며 자주색 염료로도 사용한다.
