층층잔대[초롱꽃과 잔대속]

어린잎은 나물로, 뿌리는 사삼(沙蔘)이라 하여 약용 또는 식용하는 여러해살이풀로

키는 40~120cm 정도 자란다.

줄는 네모지고 돌려나는 가지에 많은 꽃이 달린다.

잎은 돌려나기, 마주나기, 어긋나기 등으로 여러 형태이며, 모양도 타원형, 길쭉한 선형 등이 있다

꽃은 7~9월에 하늘색으로 피며, 드물게 흰색의 꽃이 피는 것도 있다
