꿀풀과의 두 해 살이 풀
꽃은 광대나물을 닮았는데 잎이 자주색이라서 자주광대나물이 되었다
유럽과 아시아 지역에 분포하며 우리 나라에는 러시아에서 둘어 온 귀화식물이다
빛이 잘 드는 곳이면 들녁에서 부터 산기슭까지 아무데서나 잘 자라며
다른 귀화식물과 마찬가지로 군락을 이루며 자라서 주위에 다른식물 살지 못한다
