꽃차례가 밑으로 처지는 특성 때문에 붙여진 이름이다.
거제도에서 처음 발견되어 거제물봉선 이라고 불렸었는데 전국의 여러곳에서 발견되어 처진물봉선으로 통합하였다
물봉선(가야물봉선, 흰물봉선 등)에 비해 꿀주머니의 끝이 동그랗게 말리지 않으며 연한분홍색이 도는 흰색의 꽃이 피는
데 이 곳에는 완전히 흰색의 처진물봉선도 몇개체 있다
