야광나무[장미과 사과나무속]

어두운 데서 빛을 내는 야광주(夜光珠) 같은 나무란 뜻으로 야광나무라 한다.

봄이 무르익는 4월 말부터 5월에 온통 흰 꽃을 뒤집어쓴 것처럼 많은 새하얗게 달린다.

제주를 제외한 전국에 자라는 잎지는 넓은잎 큰 키나무로 키가 10m까지 자란다.

열매는 지름이 1~2cm 정도로 작으며 9~10월에 익는다.
