아버지는 고기 잡으러 갔다가 영영 못돌아 오고
그런 아빠를 기다리다 지친 엄마마저 어린 소년을 남겨두고 떠나고
엄마를 그리다 그리다 바닷가에 피는 바람꽃이 되었다는 섬소년의
슬픈 전설을 안고 있는 변산바람꽃. 제주부터 강원남부 까지 분포하는데
특히 처음 발견된 변산반도, 전남고흥, 제주도, 여수 항일암 부근, 서해의 풍도 등
바다바람이 부는 곳에 많이 자생한다.
