곤드레나물로 더 알려진 고려엉겅퀴는 산지에서 자라는 여러해살이풀이다.
7~10월에 머리 모양 꽃차레에 자주색 꽃이 피며, 흰색꽃이 피는 흰고려엉겅퀴는 별도 구분한다.
