감국은 바닷가에 자라는 것에 비해 산국은 들이나 산자락에 자란다.
꽃의 지름이 1.5cm 정도로 감국의 1/2 크기이며 많은 꽃이 달리고 잎이 5갈래로 깊게 갈라진다.
