소백산 이북의 높은 산 숲 또는 바위틈에 자라는 여러해살이 풀로서 7~9월에 회백색의 꽃이 핀다.
꽃은 잡성화로 여러 송이가 원줄기 끝에서 산형(우산모양) 꽃차례를 이루며 달린다
